Renewable energy

Sweden fully embraces green technologies. A focus on energy efficiency and alternative energy resources is evident wherever you look. This is partly explained by sophisticated industrial demand and rapid technology adoption. Swedish municipalities are also important in driving developments. Several hundred biogas plants provide electricity, heat and fuel to Swedish cities, and district heating/cooling systems reach large shares of the population.

Business opportunities

Bioenergy

Sweden is among the world leaders within bio energy use and technology. There is a full value chain coverage from raw material handling and processing to optimized end product mix.

Biofuels for transportation

This is the ideal place to develop and manufacture 1st and 2nd generation biofuels. There is good access to raw material, solid refining know-how, a large pulp and paper industry, a strong automotive industry and dedicated test environments. Promising new technologies: ethanol from cellulose, dimethyl ether (DME), Fischer Tropsch Diesel (FTD) and hydrogen.

Solar power

Swedish research in photovoltaic technology is outstanding. In hybrid solar technology Swedish research and technolgies are leading. Several multinational companies are using and further developing Swedish research findings. Ångström Solar Center in Uppsala conducts research  within 2nd and 3rd generation solar cells.

Wind power

Sweden is a hotspot for wind farm construction and by 2020, a 20-fold increase is projected. The targeted wind power output is 30 TWh from 5,000 new wind turbines representing an investment volume of some EUR 15 billion.
