German Kenersys full ahead in Sweden

Wind turbine manufacturer Kenersys, a Kalyani Group company, invested last year in its first prototypes in Sweden. Kenersys now gets on track with a series of recently signed projects.

In the process of developing their wind turbines, Kenersys has chosen to invest in Sweden. The company had put top priority on setting up prototypes in Europe for certification purposes. In 2009, it established its first two test turbines near Göteborg and on the island of Gotland.

The Göteborg establishment was a strategic alliance with Göteborg Energi and its customer AB Volvo. Volvo already had good relations with Kenersys’ major shareholder Kalyani Group’s flagship company Bharat Forge. On Gotland, Kenersys cooperates with Swedish leading utility Vattenfall. The cooperation with Vattenfall allowed Kenersys to install its first K100 turbine at the Vattenfall Test Center Näsudden. At the same time Kenerys started its serial production in Wismar, Germany, with an annual production capacity of 180 turbines.

Kenersys has also set up a sales office in Stockholm and has ambitious expansion plans in Sweden.

Contracts in Sweden

Having signed two contracts in Sweden earlier this year, Kenersys closed two additional contracts in August and September 2010. The first is for project developer Vänervind AB (Mariestad). Three turbines will be delivered to Brålanda, in the region of Västergötland. The contract includes turbine supply, foundation, transformer station, installation and commissioning of the turbines. In September, Kenersys signed another contract with Swedish project developer Windico in Ånge in the Västernorrland region. Six wind turbines, totalling 15 MW, will be installed in Portberget wind park with an option for additional eight turbines.

Reasons for choosing Sweden

– Sweden has some of the best wind resources in the world, but at present, wind energy only contributes about 2 percent to total wind power consumption. And there is huge potential for Kenersys to be tapped, comments  Jochen Weick, Kenersys’ spokesman.

The company has ambitious plans in Sweden, based on the positive feedback from its customers and the active support from Invest Sweden.
